ADVANCE PLAYER PITCH U12 BASEBALL & SOFTBALL

NEW FOR THIS YEAR:  The 5th & 6th grade (U12 baseball, age as of May 1; U12 softball, age as of January 1) baseball & softball division will be part of a NEW Inter Community Recreation League (ICRL).  This league is composed of area communities such as Grass Lake, Stockbridge, and Manchester.  The mission of this League is to enhance community recreation leagues by offering inter community league games.  All communities involved in the ICRL have come together and agreed to play by the same standardized rules.  At time of print the specific governing rules were not finalized.  If interested in the specifics, please contact the office for more details.

ADVANCED PLAYER PITCH PROGRAM is Chelsea Recreation’s standard recreation league.  Emphasis is placed on fun, learning, and developing skills.  Teams play against other teams in or around Chelsea.  Although all players will receive equal playing time, Chelsea Recreation recognizes that children in 5th and 6th grade want to concentrate on their “favorite” position.  With that being said, Coaches are required to allow players to try different positions in the beginning of the season.  Once the season is rolling (2/3 weeks in), players will be counseled by the coach on their strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations on which position they should concentrate on. The premise of this advance player pitch league is to allow players to learn positional play for the better part of the season.

Some games will be played in the Grass Lake, Manchester, and Stockbridge.  Last year in the baseball division, Chelsea had 4 teams, Stockbridge had 2 teams, Manchester had 3 teams, and Grass Lake had 3 teams.  Combined, we had a total of 12 baseball teams and could of played each team twice, one home and one away, plus an end of the year tournament. Last year in the softball division, 9 teams could of participated, thus enhancing our current league with more games and an end of the year tournament.  At time of print, details for the season were being addressed.  If you would like more information, please contact the recreation office.

Knowledgeable parent volunteers are needed to coach the teams.  All players will receive a baseball cap/visor, team shirt, and pants/shorts.

NEW TEAM PLACEMENT DAY!  Plan on participating on (tentative date) Saturday, March 22, time: TBA at Beach baseball fields.  This is a skills day supervised by Chelsea High School Baseball/Softball Coaches to help create EQUAL and BALANCED teams.  After the skills day, coaches will participate in a DRAFT and create their team.  Although the skills day is not mandatory, players are ENCOURAGED to participate.  If you are unable to attend your child will still be drafted on a team.  If you prefer your child to play on a specific team, it is up to you, as the parent to contact the coach of that team prior to the DRAFT and make your wishes known.  It is then up to the coach to select your child at the DRAFT.  No guarantees can be made that your child will end up on any particular team.
